Located at the top of a historic building on the Meir — Antwerp’s most iconic shopping street — this former attic
space has been reimagined into a refined one-bedroom apartment. Originally housing little more than the lift’s
technical room, the space demanded a complete rethinking of layout and proportion. With its compact footprint,
the design approach was guided by restraint: a clean, minimalist palette that amplifies light and creates a sense of openness.
Subtle accents enrich the clarity of the interior — a bronzed mirror backsplash in the kitchen, natural stone
in the bathroom, and dark oak millwork in the bedroom. A distinctive highlight is the extension onto the
terrace with a “garden room,” two sides in glass, offering both expansion and intimacy. The result is a space
that feels contemporary, airy, and surprisingly generous despite its modest scale.
I acted as lead interior architect for this project, overseeing all client meetings and
being fully responsible for the design concept, spatial layout, and materialization.
